You know it's your third when....

You know you are expecting your third when:

  • You completely forget what week of pregnancy you are in and have no idea when your next OB appointment is.

  • You refuse to buy Dreft, and haven't pre-washed any of the new baby clothes. Whatever detergent is on sale will do.

  • You understand that you will never get your pre-baby body back (without plastic surgery.)

  • You look forward to your hospital's practically a spa after all.

  • What To Expect is no longer your bible.

  • How your pet will react to the new addition is of no concern to you.

  • You briefly contemplate hiring a professional stylist to do your hair and makeup at the hospital, after all you know those first pictures are going to be all over Facebook.

  • Nesting? What's the point? A well-organized nursery will be destroyed approximately three days after baby comes home.

  • You get jittery anytime someone tells you that they are jealous of your maternity leave, envious of the long "break" you will be getting. You resist the urge to ask them if they have ever had a vacation that involved major surgery, sleep deprivation, dieting and cracked nipples.

  • You are even more excited about the arrival of your newborn than you were with your first. You have been there before, and you know that there is nothing, nothing, more exhilarating than holding your baby for the very first time.

  1. Great post, Rachel :) You are getting close!

  2. Ahh, holding your newborn for the first time, now that is something I could do over and over again!! (Just how close I wonder?)

  3. Haha- I am so glad FB was not around when I had my children.

  4. I laughed so hard at this. Thanks for the comment on my blog - we are due May 27th! How far along are you? Congratulations! :)

  5. Moriah, C-section is scheduled 6/3. Our babies will be VERY close in age. Looking forward to swapping newborn stories!

  6. Funny! I can totally see the truths here...haha!
Sometimes wish we had more than one...and I still don't have my pre-pregnancy body!

But hold that little baby tight...those moments pass so quickly....

  7. These are great! Yea, the facebook photos were pretty horrific-- even of Niall. I remember looking at a couple that my friend posted and yelled out loud "He's so not that ugly!! Where did that picture come from??" I won't even go into what I looked like ;)

  8. That was totally me even with #2... well, except close to the end I definitely knew what week I was because I was ready to be done!
    Hope you are feeling great!!

  9. haha!! I sooooooo understand ALL of those points. the 4th pregnancy I didn't even have TIME for midwife checks. It was really difficult to fit them in...bring on the plastic surgery ;)

  10. I can relate to this even with number 2! I was more than a week late scheduling my first two appointments (whereas with first I lived for those appointments!). Today I told someone I was 15 weeks and then later checked my calendar and realized I'm not quite 14. And yesterday I sat down and skimmed over the last couple of months of What to Expect to see if there was anything important I've missed. And there wasn't.

BUT, all of that said, I love this little babe so much... those things are no measure!

p.s. I never even washed my first's clothes with baby detergent....
